Thunderstone - Tuesday, August 02, 2005
Yet another popular way to search the web. It is constantly looking on the web itself for new websites, but it does not accept requests to index individual pages. There's no way to add your URL to their site, but if your site is already in, you CAN edit your listing in their directory, if you need to. (Thunderstone uses an algorithm to categorize your site and it often gets it wrong.) They've set it up so you can change categories if you think you are in the wrong one. It's a novel way to do it--their blurb says it would take about 80 humans to do what Thunderstone does to categorize all the sites it finds.
Note while it is not possible to ADD to Thunderstone, only to edit your listing. It's free. read more ...

Netscape - Tuesday, August 02, 2005
Netscape now pulls most of its search results from Google and the Open Directory Project. Register at Googleand you'll be registered here at Netscape.
Netscape owns the Open Directory Project and is heavily dependent on ODP for its directory search results. If your site is listed in Netscape but not in the right category -- or if it doesn't come up when you search for the main keywords for your site, try to "suggest a site" in the right category at Netscape's Open Directoryinterface. You'll need to find exactly the right category -- which you'll know you've found when you discover all your competitors there -- and click the "submit a site" link at the bottom of the page. Fill out the form and submit it. A human reviewer will verify it is the right category and will let you know one way or the other if you've been entered there. Note: Don't click the "add site" button (different wording!) at the bottom of the page, because that takes you to a paid service that charges $89.00. read more ...
Go Guides - Tuesday, August 02, 2005
Go Guides is a small directory, the editors of which were originally some of the guides who formerly worked with the Go.com directory, which Disney bought and closed a couple of years ago. If you become a Go Guide yourself, there is no charge to submit. Otherwise, they ask for $39.95.
Recently (December 2003) they have added a free submit page, so you can get in for free. Dig through their categories and suggest your site in the right one. As of May 2004, they are now affiliated with www.links2go.com, offering a deal with directory submission here at GoGuides and double your money in credit on an account with links2go. If you are looking for a linking program, you may want to take advantage of it with sign-up. read more ...
Where2Go - Tuesday, August 02, 2005
Where2Go is a directory of businesses only. You'll not only need to pick a "Yellow Pages" category, this site asks for considerably more information when you register there. Joe Ant - Tuesday, August 02, 2005
A small directory. It is worth taking the time to dig through their categories and register here. It was free until March 2003, now it costs $39.99 (US) to suggest your site (non-refundable, one-time fee). Up to you whether it is worth it for you. I suggest looking in your category and seeing if your main competition is registered here. If so, you should probably register here as well. Also, registering here should help your Google Page Rank. read more ...
